Ouray, truly the "Gem of the Rockies," provides
a spectacular setting, nestled in a circle of mountains and cliffs.
Located in southwestern Colorado, Ouray was incorporated in 1876 with
much of its history wrapped in mining. Silver mining went full speed
until the 1893 Silver Panic, and then gold production boomed with
the discovery of Camp Bird gold. From 1896 until 1910 the mine produced
more than $26 million in riches.
As the mining operations closed down, visitors kept coming for the beauty
of the area and the natural hot springs. They continue to come today for the
same reasons. The Ouray Hot Springs Pool is open year-round and soothes
the muscles of many guests. Ouray is also known as the "Jeep Capital of
the World" with 500 miles of 4-wheel trails in the high mountains. Rental
companies can provide jeeps, as well as seasoned drivers, for these trips
which often provide views of old ghost towns and abandoned mines.
Visitors are not only captivated by the breath-taking scenery but also by the
warmth and friendliness of Ouray's residents and the Victorian charm of many
restored turn-of-the-century structures. On your next visit to historic
Ouray, why not include an overnight experience at one of our charming
bed and breakfasts where you'll be met with gracious hospitality and
comfortable quality lodging. Choose a relaxing stay with any of the
